New Track - What The Water Gave Me
Tue 23 Aug, 2011
The wait is finally over, following weeks of writing and recording new material we can today unveil the first taste of Florence & The Machine's forthcoming second album - a brand new track called What The Water Gave Me.
If you have seen Flo in concert recently you may have witnessed her perform it live but this is the first release of the studio version of the track.
Visit www.florenceandthemachine.net to exclusively watch a video of Flo performing What The Water Gave Me in the studio now.
Speaking about the song, Flo said: "It's a song for the water... Because in music and art what I'm really interested in are the things that are overwhelming. The ocean seems to me to be nature's great overwhelmer.
"When I was writing this song I was thinking a lot about all those people who've lost their lives in vain attempts to save their loved ones from drowning. It's about water in all forms and all bodies. It's about a lot of things; Virginia Woolf creeps into it, and of course Frieda Kahlo, whose painfully beautiful painting gave me the title."

Rest Of The World
Florence & The Machine's second album was once again produced by Paul Epworth and was recorded over five weeks in the famous Studio 3 of Abbey Road (where the Beatles recorded 'Revolver' and Pink Floyd ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’), after which Florence and Paul decamped to his own London studio to add the finishing touches.
The as yet untitled album will be released on November 7th in the UK.
Stay tuned for more album number 2 news coming soon...
